Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers’ iconic duo
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers’ iconic duo
Inspired by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers’ iconic duo, we were asked to apply parametric design principles to a tensile piece of fabric in order to experiment with shape, form and the material’s behaviours, such as distortion, stiffening, corrugation and curvature. Using 3ds Max, Rhino/Grasshopper and physical modelling, we created a form that can only exist through the simultaneous assemblage of the two parts of the shell: the top and inside with the bottom and exterior part. Fred, the structured Perspex, and Ginger, the tensile fabric, are attached to one another from the beginning, but it is through a twisting of the joinery performed by Fred, that Ginger reaches her voluptuous shape, full of momentum.
