At the Welsh School of Architecture, 2nd-year students are offered to enter a design competition, sponsored by FINSA. This year’s brief was to design a mobile shelter for the growing homeless crisis in Cardiff. The only strict criteria was that it must be transportable on a flatbed lorry. Our aim was to design a modular pod that can be easily assembled by its potential residents. It can either stand-alone or near other pods to create a temporary community. The aesthetic aim was to leave insulation visible in both the walls and roof, to enhance the feeling of protection and warmth. In the roof, natural sheep wool is used to fit in the frame and create a second layer of cloudy sky.
